From our studio in Workington, Cumbria, we create ranges of beautiful yet functional ceramic pieces for your home; all handmade by the people we support. Each sale enables us to grow and expand our offering and purchase all the tools we need.
About us
By empowering them to learn the skills needed to make the ceramics, the people we support are able to strive towards a more fulfilling and independent life whilst benefiting from social interaction with peers and the local community.
Meet the makersTo begin with, the clay is wedged to get rid of air bubbles. The clay is then shaped and fettled into the necessary shape using a combination of hand-building and press moulding techniques. Each piece is then stamped with the initials of the potter that made it.
The pieces are left to dry out and then put into the kiln for a bisque firing. Some of our pieces are hand painted which happens at this stage. Then every item is dip glazed by hand which protects them and makes all of our pieces microwave and dishwasher safe.
Once the glaze has dried, the items go into the kiln for a final fire. This is the final stage in the process and once this is done, they are ready to sell! Make sure you lookout for the potter stamp on the bottom of your item so you can see which of our potters made it.
